Tyler County Speedway

The Tyler County Speedway would like to extend its condolences to the family of Duke Travis.

Gerald “Duke” Travis September 25, 1931-February 11, 2025
Duke enjoyed camping, boating at Sutton Lake, hunting, fishing, working on demolition derby cars, Dirt Track races at Tyler County Speedway from the inaugural race in 1974. He was a member of the Bullring Booster Club. He loved riding on his side-by-side around the county and sitting around the campfires in the evenings at Crystal Lake with family and friends or on the porch. He also enjoyed watching classic westerns, there wasn't one he hadn't seen at least a dozen times, and he could tell family members what was going to happen line for line before it was on the screen.
Duke graduated from Doddridge County High School class of 1950. He was involved in the Oil and Gas Industry during the 1950's and 60's with his father Claude and brother Burl. He owned and operated Duke's Bar and Ashland Station from 1953 until closing in 1991. He retired from his carryout Store in 1997.
