Daniel Hill Punches Ticket to Hillbilly 100; Trimble, Carson & Spencer Score First Wins of Season!

The 3rd time was the charm as after two consecutive rainouts Mother Nature would shine down on America’s Baddest Bullring for the Season Championship/ Hillbilly Qualifiers and rescheduled Bud Weigle Memorial Saturday Night. A stout field of 120 participants would pack the pit area for one last tune-up before the biggest race weekend of the season the 55th Annual Hillbilly 100 this Labor Day weekend Sept. 1-3.

Morgantown, WV’s Daniel Hill would park the Dave Groves owned GRS1 machine in the EQT Victory Lane for the 2nd time this season in the Stutler Motorsports Super Late Model division presented by Midcap Land and Timber. Hill would set a blistering pace among the leaders and fend off perennial top runners Kyle Thomas and Jacob Hawkins to secure the win and his guaranteed starting spot in the Hillbilly 100. Behind Hill at the stripe was the 2023 TCS Super Late Model track champion Kyle Thomas, Jacob Hawkins, Robbie Scott and Ryan Payne.

In the J&R Excavating RUSH Late Model division it would be another Morgantown missile, Brent Trimble etching his name to the Bud Weigle Memorial record books by grabbing his first win of the season. Trimble aboard the West Virginia Pool Construction/ Nu Finish Collision Center/ Blue Ridge Truck Service/ Top Knotch Kustom Koncepts XR 1 Rocket would dominate in fine fashion on his way to the pay window. Following Trimble across the stripe was your 2023 RUSH Late Model track champion Donnie Dotson, Brandon Weigle, Kyle Thomas and Ryan Hare.

Sistersville, WV’s Doug Carson would capture his first win of the 2023 season in the Jenkins Auto Parts UMP Modified feature event. The driver of the Carson Motorsports/ VFW Elite Chassis would turn back all challengers on his way to the popular victory. Chasing Carson across the line was Lance Elson, Chad Smith, the 2023 UMP Modified track champion Shawn Jett and Jason Brookover.

A wild and wooly Middlebourne Galaxy Food Center Sportmod feature would see Tyler Spencer of Middlebourne, WV capture his first win of the season. The popular win for Spencer was aboard the NTRA Race Engines/ Stacy’s Custom Crafts/ Chris & Kayelynn Gresham/ John & Belinda Stevens/ Dale’s Mill Service/ Whistle Whistle Whistle Jay & Ashley Early/ K&J Auto/ Jenkins Auto Parts/ Connie Rexroad (in memory of Sonny Spencer)/ Nash Run Farms Kryptonite machine. Trailing Spencer to the EQT Victory Lane was Justin Robinson, Allen Clark, Sonny Conley and Marcus Collart. Congratulations to Lance Weppler for picking up his first Tyler County Speedway track championship in the Sportmod division.

It was Wileyville, WV’s Steve Magyar overtaking leader Josh Sigler late in the race to secure his second win of the season in the J&L Collision Center Hotmod division. Following ‘Big Daddy’ was a fine run by Josh Sigler, young Carson Thomas, Mickey Thorpe and Kevin Dotson. Brian Probst would lay claim to the 2023 Hotmod track championship for the second consecutive season.

Having already clinched the 2023 Dual Threat Sports Cards SCDRA 4 Cylinder track championship prior to the nights action Travis Corbin would go ahead and put an exclamation point on the season by picking up his 2nd victory of the season. Trailing Corbin at the finish was Noah Bubeck, Mitch Eddy, Joey Price and Joe Price.

Kicking off the evenings activities were the Hino Motors Manufacturing USA Mini Wedge racers. In the Senior division it was Leah Brightwell claiming her 5th win of the season and by virtue also claiming back to back track championships. Behind Brightwell at the line was Bryson Roberts and Erickson Smith. In the Junior division picking up his second win of the season was Eli Smith. Following Smith was Peyton Gibson and Coen Thomas. Cruz Thomas would garner his 3rd consecutive track championship in the Junior division.

Be sure to join us next Saturday, Aug. 26th at America’s Baddest Bullring as we turn our attention to the ‘Lil’ Bullring for the Lil’ Hillbilly Flat Kart Races as we officially kick off Hillbilly 100 week. Gates will open at noon with action getting underway at 3pm. America’s Baddest Bullring will then shift to the 55th Annual Hillbilly 100, Labor Day weekend, Sept. 1-3 as West Virginia’s biggest race weekend of the year kicks into high gear. Highlighted by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and the $30,000 to win Oldest Dirt Late Model Race in America. Tickets available at www.tylercountyspeedwayonline.com.
