Steve Weigle Earns Emotional Win in 9th Annual Bud Weigle Memorial

The Tyler County Speedway would be the place to be for excitement this past Saturday Night as the ‘Bullring’ would welcome 117 competitors to square off in the 9th Annual Bud Weigle Memorial. A picture-perfect night weather wise, a superb racing surface, a great crowd and a pit full of race cars would kick off the 58th Annual Tyler County Fair in honor of the late Bud Weigle. Picking up wins were Steve Weigle, Coleman Evans, AJ Spagnuolo, Tom Sigler, Lance Weppler, Jason Frazier, Leah Brightwell and Carson Thomas.

In the J&R Excavating Super Late Model division presented by Midcap Land and Timber it was the 9th Annual Bud Weigle Memorial. Middlebourne, WV’s Steve Weigle would roll off in position #2 and be the sentimental favorite in his Granddad’s Memorial race. Weigle would blast off the front like a man on a mission and run a flawless race blasting around the speedway’s immaculate topside. A fierce battle behind the leader for the runner-up position between Derek Doll and Travis Brown would thrill fans for the duration of the event. But at the checkered flag it was the Robey Excavating/ Tom Rogers Engines/ Weigle Farms/ Body by McCoy/ Octane XR1 Rocket of Weigle picking up his first Weigle Memorial and second win of the season in front of a very appreciative crowd. Weigle was followed by Derek Doll, Travis Brown, last weeks feature winner Brian Baumberger and Tyler Stutler.

A great field of Jenkins Auto Parts UMP Modifieds would converge on the ‘Bullring’ with Mineral Wells, WV ace racer Coleman Evans nabbing his second win of the season in only four trips to Tyler County. The driver of the 17c Evans Construction/ Lethal Chassis would hold off a hard charging 2 time defending track champion Cody Brightwell to earn the win. Following Evans to the payout window were Brightwell, Danny Thomas from 10th, Chad Smith and Doug Carson. The win would be Evans second of the weekend as the young shoe would grab Friday Nights win at the Ohio Valley Speedway as well.

In the Appalachian Mineral Title Company FASTRAK Late Model division it was Shinnston, WV’s AJ Spagnuolo picking up his second win of the season. The driver of the 5a machine would hold off Donnie Dotson, Sparky Davidson, Hayden Jacobs and Brandon Weigle for the win. Spagnoulo pilots the American Garage Door/ A1 Lawn Care/ Joy Recycling/ Spags Racing Rocket XR-1 machine.

A great field of twenty Middlebourne Galaxy Food Center Sportmods would take the green with Marietta, Ohio’s Lance Weppler parking his #7 Kryptonite back in the West Virginia University of Parkersburg Victory Lane. Following Weppler was a game Brandon McGrady, current point leader Steven Dotson, last weeks feature winner Pat Garrett and Justin Robinson with a season best top five.

A strong field of 27 EDGE Hotmods would start the evening with hopes of heading to the West Virginia University of Parkersburg Victory Lane but when the checkered flag waived on the 18 car starting field it was St. Marys, WV’s Tom Sigler notching his 3rd win of the season. It would not come easy for the pilot of the Sigler Fabrication yellow #19 as the talented wheelman would have to hold off a surging Daniel Muldrew to secure the victory. Following Sigler and Muldrew to the stripe was Brian Probst, Tyler Spencer and last weeks feature winner Lou Ennis.

Jason Frazier of Anmoore, WV would score his first Bullring Bomber feature event of the season ahead of Mike Todd, Tim Coberly, Joey Price and James Piggott.

The kids of the Phillips Drug MWRA would kick off the show with Leah Brightwell garnering her incredible 8th win in a row over Cruz Thomas and Arianna Henthorn in the Junior Division. Current point leader Carson Thomas would extend his point lead with his 6th win of the season ahead of Jake Casto and Peyton Baker.

The Tyler County Speedway will be off next Saturday Night, Aug. 7th for the Annual Tyler County Fair but will see Fair racetrack activities all week including ATV Drags (Mon.), Hotmod, Bomber and Mini Wedge racing (Tue.), Flat Kart Racing (Wed.), Demo Derby (Thur.), Truck Pull (Fri.) and Mud Bog (Sat.). The ‘Bullring’ will return to Saturday Night action on August 14th with Bullring Booster Nostalgia Night as we down the homestretch towards the season ending 53rd Annual Hillbilly 100 weekend, Labor Day weekend.
