Sonny Conley Wins Electrifying 20th Annual Topless 50

Conley wins topless 50

Ruckman & Stalder Garner First Ever Bullring Wins

(Middlebourne, WV)  An epic night at the ‘Bullring’ for the 20th Annual Topless 50 would see a little bit of everything.  From new track records, first time winners, legendary side by side duals, a daring outside charge for victory in front of a packed house that left the Tyler County Speedway faithful buzzing afterward.  Local standout and New Martinsville, West Virginia native Sonny Conley would steal the show in picking up his 2nd Topless 50 title in thrilling fashion over a very talented field.  A stout 110 car field took part in the traditional Topless event with Robbie Scott, JE Stalder, Jim Ruckman, Chad Smith, Bill Tennant, and Brady Smith also picking up coveted ‘Bullring’ wins.

The Elite 8 Super Late Model tour would set the tone for their first ever show by witnessing the “Showstopper” Tim Dohm return to the ‘Bullring’ and blistering the 1/4 mile racey oval in 12.12 seconds lowering the previous track record held by Mike Benedum.  Three heat races were ran setting the stage for the 20th Annual Topless 50 with Chuck Harper, Zack Dohm and Sonny Conley picking up heat race wins.

With the table set for a Tyler County Speedway classic, the fan favorite Topless 50 event would see five different leaders and side by side racing aplenty throughout the field.  Chuck Harper would lead lap 1 while fourth starting Jared Hawkins would blast by on lap two and stretch out an early comfortable lead while 5th and 7th starting Paul Wilmoth and Keith Barbara would begin their assault on the front picking off cars one at a time.  Hawkins would see his lead diminish as the Fairmont, WV racer would suffer a flat tire midway through the race and bring out the caution setting up an epic chapter in the Topless 50 history.  With double file restarts being utilized by Elite 8 officials that would set up a highly contested Wilmoth and Barbara battle as the field went back to green.  Barbara on the high side and Wilmoth uncharacteristically on the bottom the lead duo would wage a side by side war for some dozen laps in breathtaking fashion as only the ‘Bullring’ can provide.  Meanwhile behind the lead duo would also see row after row of side by side action as an intense battle raged for 3rd and 4th between Sonny Conley and Zack Dohm.  A late race caution as Chuck Harper would slam the outside guardrail coming out of turn 4 collecting Davey Johnson and Dusty Hamrick and bringing out the events last caution.  Once again it would be Barbara and Wilmoth lining up for an eight lap shootout.  However, when the green flag dropped it was the familiar 1×1 of Sonny Conley who would blast around the top shelf of the speedway in daring fashion first passing Wilmoth and then blowing by Barbara coming off of turn two with 4 laps to go to lead the rest of the way.  Conley would cross under the stripe grabbing his second Topless 50 title to a rousing applause from the appreciative crowd.  Following the New Martinsville, WV racer was 7th starting Keith Barbara, Paul Wilmoth, Zack Dohm and Devin Moran.

Robbie Scott aboard the Kenny’s Machine, Slavic Decals, Swift Springs, Integra Shocks, Rocket Chassis would claim his 2nd Peoples Bank FASTRAK Late Model victory of the season by picking up the ‘Topless 25′.  A stout field of 21 eager FASTRAK racers would hit the highbanks in search of Topless glory.  But it would be the former Topless 50 winner and Shinnston racer holding off Shawn Jett, Tim Dohm, fast qualifier Derek Rogers and Pennsylvania newcomer Damien Bidwell.

It was a very popular and well deserved win for veteran racer Jim Ruckman in the Modlite division.  A long time competitor at Tyler County Speedway, Ruckman of Waverly, WV would not find his first speedway win easy as he would have to hold off previous winners Jeff Fornash and Mitch Ward.  Lap after lap Ruckman would hit his marks in near perfect fashion and drive to victory ahead of Fornash, Ward, Brandon Fluharty and Ryan Baker.

Another first timer JE Stalder of Martins Ferry, Ohio driving the 17JE machine would park his ride in the Tyler County Speedway victory lane for his first feature win by blasting around the topside of the speedway.  Hot on his tail would be Gerald Deitch, Bird Wilson, Del Cunningham and Tommy Powell.

Picking up his 4th win in a row at Tyler County Speedway in the Hotmod division was Chad Smith of Sardis, Ohio aboard the black and camo 10s.  The night started out with Smith getting involved in a grinding crash on the frontstretch during the dash.  The determined and defending track champion would roll off his 6th starting spot in the feature and pick off his competitors one by one in convincing fashion.  Following Smith across the line were Darrin Glover, Lou Ennis, Kenny Isner, and Levi Flesher.

In the FWD 4 Cylinder division it was Bill Tennant garnering his second win in a row.  Tennant would hold off a pesky Donnie Wamsley across the stripe as the duo was followed by Robert Frohnapfel, Jason Frazier and Scott Critchfield.

Brady Reed would grab the win in the JJK Mineral MWRA Mini Wedge division besting Kylie Cross, Dalton Anderson, Steve Frazier and Roo Roo Dotson rounded out the top five.

History of the Topless 50

Starting in 1995, New Martinsville’s Steve Steele put his name first on the list. Steele passed race long leader Butch McGill exiting turn four coming to the checkered flag, setting the bar high for races to come.

After losing on the final circuit in the inaugural race, in 1996 ‘the Doddridge County Terror’ Butch McGill dominated and won the second annual event.

In 1997 Gary Dalton grabbed the lead early. Eighth starting Kenny Johnson, ‘the South Side Flyer’ worked his way to the front and began a duel with Dalton. Johnson secured the spot on lap 47 enroute to the victory. Johnson, Dalton, Bobby Hill, Chris Stotts and Bill Childers were the top five.

The 1998 race had Greg Mitchell holding the point until lap eight when ‘the Beverly Gearjammer’ Chuck Harper grabbed the spot and never looked back. Harper, Bobby Hill, Denny Chamberlain, Bill Childers, and D J Cline filled out the top five.

In 1999 Mike Balzano was the leader at the outset, but Chuck Harper stole the spot away on lap 10. He would relinquish it to Paul Wilmoth Jr. on lap 17. Harper would get it back on lap 24, only to have Butch McGill take it on lap 31. McGill became the first two time winner as he bested Harper, Gary Dalton, Mike Eaton and Steve Weigle.

What some call one of the best of the annual roofless races happened in 2000. Mike Benedum held off numerous attempts from Doug Horton to take the point. On the white flag lap, Horton, ‘the Bruceton Bandit’ got under Benedum at the flag stand to get the lead and collected his biggest career win. Charlie Maloney was third, Jimmy Cobb and Jeremy Peck were fourth and fifth.

The 2001 version had three different leaders as Chuck Harper held the spot until lap 38 when Mike Benedum took over. ‘The Gambler’ Paul Wilmoth Jr. then snagged the spot on lap 41 to capture his first Topless crown. Benedum, Doug Horton, Robbie Scott and Mike Eaton filled out the top five.

Paul Wilmoth Jr. dominated the 2002 race as he led wire to wire to take his second checkerboard. Mike Benedum would finish second for the third straight year. Bobby Hill, Robbie Scott and Chuck Harper were third through fifth.

The 2003 50 lapper had Steve Weigle in command for the first 17 go rounds. M T Hall then took over until lap 27 when ninth starting Chuck Harper secured it. Harper would become the third two time winner as he crossed the line ahead of Tim Dohm, Mike Benedum (from eleventh), Hall and Robbie Scott.

Tired of finishing second (three times) and third (’03) ‘The Bristol Bullet’ Mike Benedum snared the lead away from M T Hall on lap 39 to put his name on the Topless winners list. Hall held on for second, Robbie Blair was third. Butch McGill and Tim Dohm completed the top five.

In 2005 Jared Hawkins set sail and was the front car until Robbie Scott slipped by on lap 17. Scott would drive on for the win. Hawkins finished second. Chuck Harper (from thirteenth) was third. Bobby Hill was fourth and Sonny Conley was fifth.

It was New Martinsville, WV’s Sonny Conley aboard the familiar family operated 1×1 machine that stole the show and grabbed his first Topless 50 title in the 12th edition of the race.  It was Conley’s biggest career win.

An ‘out of stater’ came to the Bullring in 2007 and stole the show. St. Clairsville Ohio’s Mark Banal led wire to wire and was never seriously challenged enroute to the victory. Ricky Williams, Paul Wilmoth Jr., Josh McGuire and Robbie Blair crossed behind.

For his third trip to victory lane, Paul Wilmoth Jr., would lead all 50 circuits in the 2008 edition. Mike Balzano gave chase but had to settle for second. Tim Dohm, Eddie Carrier Jr., and Doug Horton rounded out the top five.

Two oval track travelers put on a show in 2009 as Robbie Blair held off ‘Showtime’ Steve Shaver for the front spot until lap 20. Shaver took over and didn’t give it back. Blair crossed in second. Third through fifth were Jared Hawkins, Eddie Carrier Jr., and Tim Dohm.

In 2010 Gary Dalton returned to Tyler County and grabbed the lead at the drop of the green with the UFo series sanctioning the race. Doug Horton passed Dalton on lap 4, but Dalton regained the spot on lap 14. Paul Wilmoth Jr. then outdragged Dalton for the lead on the restart of lap 19. Wilmoth would add his fourth Topless trophy to the case. Robbie Scott (from eleventh), Jared Miley (from nineteenth), Doug Horton, and Eddie Carrier Jr. (from twelfth) were second through fifth.

In what would become the Hawkins brothers show, the 2011 edition had its share of excitement. Tim Dohm would grab the early lead and stay there for most of the event.  Jared Hawkins started 13th and as the laps clicked off would hound Dohm until lap 48 when Dohm slowed exiting turn two allowing Hawkins to zip by and claim his 1st Topless crown.  The elder brother Jared, was able to fend off his pesky younger brother Jacob Hawkins from 17th, for the win. Robbie Scott, Paul Wilmoth Jr., and Mike Benedum filled out the top five.

Jacob Hawkins driving the St. Henry Night Club / C & R Sanning #20, would grab his biggest career win in the 18th Annual Topless 50.   The young Hawkins would hold off a hard charging Mike Marlar, Brandon Shepherd, Jared Hawkins and Corey Conley across the stripe.

A perfect evening for racing welcomed eager race fans to the 19th Annual Topless 50 where it was a familiar face sitting in victory lane as young Jacob Hawkins, Fairmont, WV would repeat his performance from a year ago in capturing consecutive Topless 50 wins.  Hawkins joins Paul Wilmoth, Butch McGill and Chuck Harper as multi win victors in the Topless 50. Mike Benedum, Jared Miley, Derek Doll and Corey Conley would round out the top five.

McGill Grabs Popular Win on Mystery Money Night

3 wide

(Middlebourne, WV)  It was another fast paced thrilling evening at the Tyler County Speedway as cagey veteran and forty year competitor at the ‘bullring’ Butch McGill of West Union, WV would grab a popular win on Mystery Money Night.  Also grabbing wins were Chad Smith, Mitch Ward, Kyle Thomas, Bird Wilson, Bill Tennant and Brady Reed on a cool brisk night that seen the seven division 106 car program complete by 10:30.

Saturday Night was Mystery Money night, a unique event that seen the division with the highest car count compete for the Super Late Model purse of $1000 to win/ $200 to start and when the dust settled on registration it was the Hotmod division that would run for the big bucks.  It was Sardis, Ohio’s Chad Smith driving the familiar black and camo 10s picking up his 3rd feature win in a row at the ‘bullring’ and grabbing the $1,000 payday.  Trailing the dominant Smith across the stripe was Kenny Isner who netted a cool $800 for his 2nd place finish while 3rd running Brad Dickson would also cash in for $600 with Travis Thomas and Lou Ennis rounding out your top five.

In the J&R Excavating Super Late Model division presented by Midcap Land and Timber it was Butch McGill and Paul Wilmoth starting on the front row.  At the onset it was the ‘Gambler’ Paul Wilmoth who would grab the early lead and appear headed to yet another Tyler County Speedway feature win.  As Wilmoth set a torrid early pace blistering the high side of the speedway it was McGill who started to slowly reel the race long leader in, running the middle of the racey track.  Once McGill would catch Wilmoth the lead duo would partake in a side by side dual for several laps before McGill would eventually squeeze by for the popular victory.  Following McGill in the 1mc Jenkins Ford/High Lines Overload Escort/NAPA Auto Parts/Slicks Car Wash/ J&M Grafix Ford Mustang Rocket across the stripe was Wilmoth in his first night out in a retro looking B1, a charging Keith Barbara, the X machine of Dusty Hamrick and Donnie Dotson.

Once again in the Peoples Bank FASTRAK Late Model division it was Pennsboro, WV’s Kyle Thomas grabbing a hard fought victory.  The sixth starting Thomas would vault to third at the drop of the green and patiently work his way to the lead passing race long leader Chad Green to claim his second win of the season in the highly competitive division.  Green would settle for second while Robbie Scott from the back of the pack would win the war over Derek Rogers for third and Brian Baumberger would cross in fifth.

It was Mike ‘Bird’ Wilson of Sistersville, WV picking up his first win of the season in the Two Brothers Motorsports Modified divison.  Wilson would lead the distance over JE Stalder, Lance Elson, Del Cunningham and Gerald Deitch.  Wilson pilots the unsponsored blue #20 Two Brothers Motorsports entry.

In the Modlite division it was Shinnston, WV’s Mitch Ward grabbing a popular win.  Ward would win a race long battle with Jeff Fornash to claim his first win of the season after being so close all year.  Ward pilots the 862 Pro/Eliminator sponsored by Throw n Dirt, Ward Welding and Fabrication, Hitt Enterprises, Hardrock modlite.  Rounding out the top five were Fornash, Brandon Fluharty, a fast closing Braden Dillinger and Matt Ward.

A new winner would emerge in the FWD 4 Cylinder division as it was Colliers, WV’s Bill Tennant aboard the #2 Cavalier sponsored by B&J Performance and BJP Racing.  Grabbing his seasons first win would not be easy for Tennant as he had to hold off a pesky Donnie Wamsley as the two time winner would look high low and in between for a way around but it was Tennant holding off all challenges to grab the victory.  Rounding out the top five behind Tennant and Wamsley were John Sinnett, the ‘birdman’ Robert Frohnapfel and Jason Frazier.

Picking up his second win of the season in the JJK Mineral MWRA Mini Wedge division was Brady Reed driving the #15 machine.  Following Reed across the stripe was last weeks winner Kylie Cross, and a hard charging Garrett Jones.

Join us next Saturday Night, May 3rd for the 20th Annual Topless 50,paying $3,040 to win.  America’s 2nd oldest Topless Late Model race turns the big 2-0 this coming Saturday night and a who’s who of regional Super Late Model talent is expected as the Elite 8 Super Late Model Series kicks off in earnest at the ‘Bullring’.  The Brother Hawkins, Jared and Jacob have won the last three Topless 50′s will they make it four in a row?  Also on the must see card will be Topless FASTRAK Late Models vying for $1040 in a Topless 20 event while the Hotmod’s will square off in the 2nd Qualifier for the Workin Man’s Weekend event in the fall.  Plus all other classes, with general admission priced at $20 and pit credentials $35, children 10 and under are free.  Gates open at 4, mini wedges at 6:15, hotlaps/qualifying beginning at 6:45.  Tyler County Speedway is located 3 1/2 miles South of Middlebourne on State Route 18 at the Tyler County Fairgrounds.  For more information contact 304-771-6874 or 304-771-5661 or visit us on the web at www.tylercountyspeedwayonline.com.  Hope to see ya there!

Strickler and Scott Grab Huge Friday Night Lights Wins

robbieslider

A packed house and bulging pit area of over 140 racers brought the curtain down on a rare Friday Night show dubbed “Friday Night Lights” at the Tyler County Speedway.  It was the Renegades of Dirt Modified Tour kicking off their Monster Modified Weekend and the FASTRAK NE Tours 2014 kickoff highlighting the evening.  When the checkered flag waived it was North Carolina’s Kyle Strickler picking up the Renegades event and Shinnston, WV’s Robbie Scott besting a fine field of FASTRAK competitors to claim the Northeast Tour’s first show of the season.  Also grabbing heralded ‘Bullring’ wins were Jacob Hawkins, Chad Smith, Jeff Fornash, Donnie Wamsley and Kylie Cross.

A stout field of 33 Renegades of Dirt modifieds representing 6 states would arrive with a $2,000 prize in their eye and looking to tame the ‘bullring’.  After four heat races and two b-mains the best of the best would take the speedway.  Kyle Strickler would vault to the early lead blasting around the top of the cushion, owning up to his nickname the “Highside Tickler” and pick up the win in convincing fashion.  Many spirited battles would thrill fans on back in the field with New York’s Rich Michael running second.  Third was a hard charging Jacob Hawkins piloting the Two Brothers Motorsports machine with fourth going to Travis Dickson and fifth to Brent Trimble.

Robbie Scott making a return to the Peoples Bank FASTRAK Late Model division would take the checkered flag after an intense race long battle with perennial winner Kyle Thomas and hold off a hard charging Jared Hawkins to grab his first win of the early season.  A talented field of cars would see four heat races going to Scott, John Over, Kyle Thomas and Ricky Williams setting the field for the first FASTRAK NE event of the season.  In the end it was Scott driving the familiar #18 Rocket sponsored by Kenny’s Machine, Slavic Decals, Rocket Chassis, Swift Springs, and Integra Shocks.  Rounding out the top five was a charging Jared Hawkins, last week’s winner Kyle Thomas, Beckley, WV racer TJ Salango and John Over.

In the J&R Excavating Super Late Model division presented by Midcap Land & Timber it was Fairmont, WV’s Jacob Hawkins driving the MJJ Motorsports, St. Henry’s Nite Club, Dargy, Melvin’s Automatic Transmissions, Miller Lite, Creekside Grill #20H would blast to the early lead and hold off a pesky Chuck Harper, Gary Dalton, Steve Weigle and Butch McGill across the line.

A familiar face would park his ride in the Modlite Victory Lane as Salem, WV’s Jeff Fornash would pick up his first win of the season.  Driving the Mutschelknaus Oil & Gas, Richard Webb Contracting, Triple H Enterprise and Tri-State Welding, Leader Chassis #99 Fornash would overtake race long leader Mitch Ward on a last lap pass.  Following Fornash and Ward across the line were Ryan Baker, Brandon Fluharty and Chris Logan.

Making it two for two in the early season defending champion Chad Smith would park his familiar #10 back in victory lane once again.  Smith would blast to an early lead before setting the cruise and besting Lou Ennis, Mick Baker, Brad Dickson and Brandon Weigle across the line.  Smith is sponsored by Quinet’s Restaurant, Litman Excavating, Blakes Auto Glass, and Fast Eddy’s Tire & Paint.

In the Front Wheel Drive 4 Cylinders it was once again Clarksburg, WV’s Donnie Wamsley going two for two.  Wamsley’s second victory wasn’t as easy as opening night as the early pace was set by the “Birdman” Robert Frohnapfel before losing a tire and setting up Wamsley to lead the rest across the line.  Rounding out the top five included Jason Frazier, Scott Critchfield, Steve Frazier and Mike Frazier.

In the MWRA Mini Wedge division it was young Kylie Cross piloting the #33 machine picking up her first win of the early season.  She would lead Brady Reed, Caleb Nolan, Philip Bubeck and Brett Coberly across the line.

Coming this Saturday Night, April 26th will be “Mystery Money Night”.  Attention drivers, get your buddies to the “Bullring” as it’s the night where whichever division has the highest car count they will race for the nightly Late Model payoff….$1000 to win/$200 to start!  Plus it’s Kids Gold Rush at intermission and general admission is just $10 with kids 10 and under FREE.

Tyler County Speedway Opens 40th Season in Grand Fashion

DSC0030

A packed house welcomed the over 100 car field back to the ‘bullring’ for night one of the historic 40th Anniversary season at the Tyler County Speedway. Garnering the 2014 season’s first checkered flags included Derek Doll, Kyle Thomas, Travis Dickson, Chad Smith, Ron Parrish, Donnie Wamsley and Brady Reed. A smooth running show including seven features and two crack the whip events took the final checkered flag at 10:45.

It was only fitting that 40 years after the first checkered flag at Tyler County Speedway was presented to a man named Pat Herrick that the ‘bullring’ kicked off the season with the 4th running of the Pat Herrick Memorial for STARS Modlites. Adding his name to an impressive resume of past champions of the popular event was Fairmont, WV’s Ron Parrish piloting the Randy Kerns RPM Motors, John Buelock, Extreme Motorsports black #21. Parrish would survive a race long battle with Mitch Ward, Brandon Fluharty, Jeff Fornash and Tracy Fritter to claim the coveted event. Following Parrish across the stripe were veteran Tracy Fritter, Jeff Fornash, newcomer Tyler Frankenberry and Brandon Fluharty.

A stellar J&R Excavating Super Late Model event presented by Midcap Land & Timber would see young lion Derek Doll vault from his sixth starting position and overtaking race long leader and last seasons track champion Butch McGill with just two circuits remaining to claim his 1st win of the season. Doll of Greenwood, WV driving the Marshall Doll owned blue and yellow 87 sponsored by BSI Well Service, Perkins Supply, ASC, Rocket Chassis would lead McGill, Mike Benedum, Corey Conley and Sonny Conley across the line.

It was all Gallipolis, Ohio’s Travis Dickson in the Two Brothers Motorsports Modified division as the young hard charger Renegade regular would earn the victory in preparation of Friday’s big Renegade of Dirt Modified tour event. Dickson pilots the family owned AM Commodities, Fannin Farms, Lias Tire, Outlaw by Shaw #16. Dickson would lead perennial track champion Bird Wilson, Lance Elson, New Yorker Rich Michael and Chris Basich across the stripe.

2014 started out much like 2013 for Pennsboro, WV’s Kyle Thomas as the young ace parked his Peoples Bank FASTRAK Late Model in victory lane once again. Thomas back in his family owned #57 would methodically work his way from his 7th starting spot to secure the popular win in the ultra-competitive division that seen 22 cars take the green. A race long tussle between leader Derek Rogers and former late model ace Robbie Scott would thrill fans before Scott got high out of turn 4 down the frontstretch making contact with the wall and bringing out the caution. A workmanlike drive to the front for the patient Thomas would eventually see last years track champion take the lead from Rogers and besting Beckley’s Aaron Barley, Rogers, Danny Thomas and Brandon McGrady. Thomas is sponsored by Powells and Son Farm, Thomas and AJ Logging, Dodd’s Sporting Goods, Slicks Auto Detailing, Maka Energy Solutions, Highlines, The Window Outlet, and Small Town Realty.

Sardis, Ohio’s Chad Smith would continue his red hot performance of 2013 by picking up his first victory of the season in the EDGE Hotmod division. The defending track champion aboard the sharp looking black 10s sponsored by Quinet’s Restaurant, Litman Excavating, Blakes Auto Glass, Fast Eddy’s Tire and Paint would hold off a determined Travis Thomas, Darren Glover, Lou Ennis and Kenny Isner to pick up the win.

After a year absence the mighty Front Wheel Drive 4 cylinders returned and perennial winner and champion Donnie Wamsley didn’t need a map to find the ‘bullring’ victory once again. Wamsley would park his familiar 00 Ford Escort sponsored by Barbie’s Day Care, East Gate Used Cars, Frosty’s Preowned into the winners circle ahead of Robert Frohnapel, Scott Critchfield, Mark Critchfield and Mike Frazier.

In the JJK Mineral MWRA Mini Wedge division it was Brady Reed besting Kylie Cross, Philip Bubeck, Garrett Jones, and Caleb Nolan.

Be sure to join us April 18th for a Friday Night Lights special event this week as the ‘bullring’ goes green on a rare Friday Night. See the East’s top modified pilots head to the Tyler County Speedway as the Renegades of Dirt Modified Tour will converge for a $2,000 to win top prize bringing in the best modified drivers on the planet. Current point leader Kyle Strickler from NC will lead the strong contingent to the ‘bullring’ in hopes of picking up night one of Monster Modified weekend. Also on the stellar card will be the FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Tour featuring a stout $1,500 payday. All other divisions are on the card as well. Gates open at 4, mini wedges get underway at 6:30 racing at 7. General admission for the stacked card is just $15 while pit pricing is $35. Don’t miss the Tyler County Speedway’s first stand -alone Friday night show in history!

Rain Washes Out First Night of Icon Tour & Renegade Speedweek, Wayne Co. Up Next!
American Racer/Lias Tire Added As Sponsor For Icon Speedweek!

(Middlebourne, WV) The highly anticipated Inaugural Icon Memorial Tour Late Model Speedway presented by Weekley Electric and the 2013 “Duel on Dirt” Renegade Modified Speedweek will have to wait another day before it gets underway due to another W for Mother Nature on the 2013 “Back For More Tour” season. The tour’s which were set to kick off on Thursday night at the Tyler County Speedway with the 25th running of the Earl Hill Memorial and the $1200 to win E-Mod special have been postponed due to rain and treacherous weather conditions for the entire Ohio Valley area for much of Thursday morning and throughout the day.

With high winds, hail, and rainfall already making its way into the area and much more predicted throughout the night Hometown Racing Association promoter John Watson was forced to call off the festivities slated for June 13th at the Bullring which included the $4,000 to win Earl Hill Memorial, a rain date for this event is still to be determined. The Renegade of Dirt Modified Tour will also look to make up the lost event during the remainder of the 2013 season which will be announced as soon as possible for racers to call an audible in order to replan their return to the Middlebourne, WV ¼ mile dirt oval. As much as three inches of rain and 60-70 mph winds are in the forecast for the already soft and saturated all new racing surface adorning the facility. The new surface features 250 loads of new clay that has yet to successfully form into prime condition which is making every large rainfall that much more difficult on track staff to prep for each race night and ultimately makes tomorrow night to risk on racers equipment for the rest of the weekend.

“The weather wont cut us any slack” stated John Watson. “We’re working hard on the surface and getting it right. Jeopardizing our progress we’ve made over the last few days by running it and the forecast calling for over two inches of rain we think it’s for the better to go ahead and postpone the Earl Hill race so that we can reschedule it and showcase the 25th annual event on a speedway that will be conducive to typical three and four wide smooth ‘Bullring’ action” added Watson. “We’re disappointed but we wanted to also make our decision early for all traveling race teams to have plenty of notice, we want to wish all the race teams the best of luck as they travel the remainder of their speedweek Friday through Sunday and want to remind everyone we will be in action this Saturday night with the Fastrak Northeast Touring Series, EDGE Hotmods, Modlites, and a speedway first 3/4 Late Models” concluded Watson.

The tours finest are now set for a three day adventure that will still see the East Elite tour and the Icon Tour storm towards three different states during the extended June 13th-16th weekend. Racers are reminded the Renegade of Dirt Modified Top Ten Bounty is still on. Any racer outside the current top ten in Renegade of Dirt point standings who tries and can out duel the East’s elite hotshoes will win an extra $500 ‘bounty’ that is up for grabs to participate and gun down the likes of Morehouse, Aukland, Wisecarver, Hartman, Kinkade, Strickler, D1ckson, Cook, D1ckson, and Watson each night. The wickedest throttle stompers this side of the Mississippi make this task as tough as they come. For the Renegades they will be gunning to keep that from happening, if they do the top five in points after the weekend will each score an extra $100 additional funds to go with their four night earnings.

The Icon Memorial Tour is still set on go for three straight days that will feature its opener now in the Buckeye State of Ohio at the Wayne County Speedway in beautiful Orrville for the $4000 to win, “Freedom Fighters 40”. Some of the Ohio Valley’s premier Super Late Model racers are expected to be in attendance to battle the always tough field of regulars at the Wayne County Speedway including; Rick Aukland, Doug Drown, Donnie and Devin Moran, Keith Barbara, Mike Benedum, Mason Zeigler, Keith Berner, and many more.

The action will then resume on Saturday when the Renegades of Dirt Modified Tour will journey to the Pittsburgh PA Motor Speedway and participate on the monster ½ mile Imperial, PA based facility for crucial tour points and for the first time ever! It also makes that return after a long absence for the open wheel division at the speedway where the Renegade Tour will battle for $1200 to win and $150 to start in front of highly anticipated large crowd. The Herb Scott Memorial and second night for the Icon Tour will also await the full fender Late Model division that will be gunning for the $4000 top prize on night #2 of the now abbreviated Icon Memorial Tour Late Model Speedweek presented by Weekley Electic.

Lastly, the tour will return to the West Virginia Motor Speedway for second time in 2013 for an epic speedweek finale battle. The 4/10′s mile ‘Speedplant’ is sure to produce a full night of adrenaline pumping speed when the Renegade tour combines with the Icon Tour Super Late Model division as they too settle their weekend champion at the Mineral Wells, WV based dirt oval during the “Mark Balzano Memorial” $4,000 to win invitational.
