Tyler County Speedway Opens 40th Season in Grand Fashion

DSC0030

A packed house welcomed the over 100 car field back to the ‘bullring’ for night one of the historic 40th Anniversary season at the Tyler County Speedway. Garnering the 2014 season’s first checkered flags included Derek Doll, Kyle Thomas, Travis Dickson, Chad Smith, Ron Parrish, Donnie Wamsley and Brady Reed. A smooth running show including seven features and two crack the whip events took the final checkered flag at 10:45.

It was only fitting that 40 years after the first checkered flag at Tyler County Speedway was presented to a man named Pat Herrick that the ‘bullring’ kicked off the season with the 4th running of the Pat Herrick Memorial for STARS Modlites. Adding his name to an impressive resume of past champions of the popular event was Fairmont, WV’s Ron Parrish piloting the Randy Kerns RPM Motors, John Buelock, Extreme Motorsports black #21. Parrish would survive a race long battle with Mitch Ward, Brandon Fluharty, Jeff Fornash and Tracy Fritter to claim the coveted event. Following Parrish across the stripe were veteran Tracy Fritter, Jeff Fornash, newcomer Tyler Frankenberry and Brandon Fluharty.

A stellar J&R Excavating Super Late Model event presented by Midcap Land & Timber would see young lion Derek Doll vault from his sixth starting position and overtaking race long leader and last seasons track champion Butch McGill with just two circuits remaining to claim his 1st win of the season. Doll of Greenwood, WV driving the Marshall Doll owned blue and yellow 87 sponsored by BSI Well Service, Perkins Supply, ASC, Rocket Chassis would lead McGill, Mike Benedum, Corey Conley and Sonny Conley across the line.

It was all Gallipolis, Ohio’s Travis Dickson in the Two Brothers Motorsports Modified division as the young hard charger Renegade regular would earn the victory in preparation of Friday’s big Renegade of Dirt Modified tour event. Dickson pilots the family owned AM Commodities, Fannin Farms, Lias Tire, Outlaw by Shaw #16. Dickson would lead perennial track champion Bird Wilson, Lance Elson, New Yorker Rich Michael and Chris Basich across the stripe.

2014 started out much like 2013 for Pennsboro, WV’s Kyle Thomas as the young ace parked his Peoples Bank FASTRAK Late Model in victory lane once again. Thomas back in his family owned #57 would methodically work his way from his 7th starting spot to secure the popular win in the ultra-competitive division that seen 22 cars take the green. A race long tussle between leader Derek Rogers and former late model ace Robbie Scott would thrill fans before Scott got high out of turn 4 down the frontstretch making contact with the wall and bringing out the caution. A workmanlike drive to the front for the patient Thomas would eventually see last years track champion take the lead from Rogers and besting Beckley’s Aaron Barley, Rogers, Danny Thomas and Brandon McGrady. Thomas is sponsored by Powells and Son Farm, Thomas and AJ Logging, Dodd’s Sporting Goods, Slicks Auto Detailing, Maka Energy Solutions, Highlines, The Window Outlet, and Small Town Realty.

Sardis, Ohio’s Chad Smith would continue his red hot performance of 2013 by picking up his first victory of the season in the EDGE Hotmod division. The defending track champion aboard the sharp looking black 10s sponsored by Quinet’s Restaurant, Litman Excavating, Blakes Auto Glass, Fast Eddy’s Tire and Paint would hold off a determined Travis Thomas, Darren Glover, Lou Ennis and Kenny Isner to pick up the win.

After a year absence the mighty Front Wheel Drive 4 cylinders returned and perennial winner and champion Donnie Wamsley didn’t need a map to find the ‘bullring’ victory once again. Wamsley would park his familiar 00 Ford Escort sponsored by Barbie’s Day Care, East Gate Used Cars, Frosty’s Preowned into the winners circle ahead of Robert Frohnapel, Scott Critchfield, Mark Critchfield and Mike Frazier.

In the JJK Mineral MWRA Mini Wedge division it was Brady Reed besting Kylie Cross, Philip Bubeck, Garrett Jones, and Caleb Nolan.

Be sure to join us April 18th for a Friday Night Lights special event this week as the ‘bullring’ goes green on a rare Friday Night. See the East’s top modified pilots head to the Tyler County Speedway as the Renegades of Dirt Modified Tour will converge for a $2,000 to win top prize bringing in the best modified drivers on the planet. Current point leader Kyle Strickler from NC will lead the strong contingent to the ‘bullring’ in hopes of picking up night one of Monster Modified weekend. Also on the stellar card will be the FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Tour featuring a stout $1,500 payday. All other divisions are on the card as well. Gates open at 4, mini wedges get underway at 6:30 racing at 7. General admission for the stacked card is just $15 while pit pricing is $35. Don’t miss the Tyler County Speedway’s first stand -alone Friday night show in history!

Rain Washes Out First Night of Icon Tour & Renegade Speedweek, Wayne Co. Up Next!
American Racer/Lias Tire Added As Sponsor For Icon Speedweek!

(Middlebourne, WV) The highly anticipated Inaugural Icon Memorial Tour Late Model Speedway presented by Weekley Electric and the 2013 “Duel on Dirt” Renegade Modified Speedweek will have to wait another day before it gets underway due to another W for Mother Nature on the 2013 “Back For More Tour” season. The tour’s which were set to kick off on Thursday night at the Tyler County Speedway with the 25th running of the Earl Hill Memorial and the $1200 to win E-Mod special have been postponed due to rain and treacherous weather conditions for the entire Ohio Valley area for much of Thursday morning and throughout the day.

With high winds, hail, and rainfall already making its way into the area and much more predicted throughout the night Hometown Racing Association promoter John Watson was forced to call off the festivities slated for June 13th at the Bullring which included the $4,000 to win Earl Hill Memorial, a rain date for this event is still to be determined. The Renegade of Dirt Modified Tour will also look to make up the lost event during the remainder of the 2013 season which will be announced as soon as possible for racers to call an audible in order to replan their return to the Middlebourne, WV ¼ mile dirt oval. As much as three inches of rain and 60-70 mph winds are in the forecast for the already soft and saturated all new racing surface adorning the facility. The new surface features 250 loads of new clay that has yet to successfully form into prime condition which is making every large rainfall that much more difficult on track staff to prep for each race night and ultimately makes tomorrow night to risk on racers equipment for the rest of the weekend.

“The weather wont cut us any slack” stated John Watson. “We’re working hard on the surface and getting it right. Jeopardizing our progress we’ve made over the last few days by running it and the forecast calling for over two inches of rain we think it’s for the better to go ahead and postpone the Earl Hill race so that we can reschedule it and showcase the 25th annual event on a speedway that will be conducive to typical three and four wide smooth ‘Bullring’ action” added Watson. “We’re disappointed but we wanted to also make our decision early for all traveling race teams to have plenty of notice, we want to wish all the race teams the best of luck as they travel the remainder of their speedweek Friday through Sunday and want to remind everyone we will be in action this Saturday night with the Fastrak Northeast Touring Series, EDGE Hotmods, Modlites, and a speedway first 3/4 Late Models” concluded Watson.

The tours finest are now set for a three day adventure that will still see the East Elite tour and the Icon Tour storm towards three different states during the extended June 13th-16th weekend. Racers are reminded the Renegade of Dirt Modified Top Ten Bounty is still on. Any racer outside the current top ten in Renegade of Dirt point standings who tries and can out duel the East’s elite hotshoes will win an extra $500 ‘bounty’ that is up for grabs to participate and gun down the likes of Morehouse, Aukland, Wisecarver, Hartman, Kinkade, Strickler, D1ckson, Cook, D1ckson, and Watson each night. The wickedest throttle stompers this side of the Mississippi make this task as tough as they come. For the Renegades they will be gunning to keep that from happening, if they do the top five in points after the weekend will each score an extra $100 additional funds to go with their four night earnings.

The Icon Memorial Tour is still set on go for three straight days that will feature its opener now in the Buckeye State of Ohio at the Wayne County Speedway in beautiful Orrville for the $4000 to win, “Freedom Fighters 40”. Some of the Ohio Valley’s premier Super Late Model racers are expected to be in attendance to battle the always tough field of regulars at the Wayne County Speedway including; Rick Aukland, Doug Drown, Donnie and Devin Moran, Keith Barbara, Mike Benedum, Mason Zeigler, Keith Berner, and many more.

The action will then resume on Saturday when the Renegades of Dirt Modified Tour will journey to the Pittsburgh PA Motor Speedway and participate on the monster ½ mile Imperial, PA based facility for crucial tour points and for the first time ever! It also makes that return after a long absence for the open wheel division at the speedway where the Renegade Tour will battle for $1200 to win and $150 to start in front of highly anticipated large crowd. The Herb Scott Memorial and second night for the Icon Tour will also await the full fender Late Model division that will be gunning for the $4000 top prize on night #2 of the now abbreviated Icon Memorial Tour Late Model Speedweek presented by Weekley Electic.

Lastly, the tour will return to the West Virginia Motor Speedway for second time in 2013 for an epic speedweek finale battle. The 4/10′s mile ‘Speedplant’ is sure to produce a full night of adrenaline pumping speed when the Renegade tour combines with the Icon Tour Super Late Model division as they too settle their weekend champion at the Mineral Wells, WV based dirt oval during the “Mark Balzano Memorial” $4,000 to win invitational.

The 2nd Annual “Mark Balzano Memorial” will honor the tragic loss of area racer and brother of Dirt Late Model great Mike Balzano of Parkersburg, WV. The finale show will also crown the inaugural ICON Memorial Tour Late Model Speedweek Champion with a $1000 cash bonus and a huge one-of-a-kind trophy after their four nights of effort.

We are excited for the potential this tour has to provide great racing for our fans and to honor the racers who have traveled this area each writing their piece of history” stated WVMS Promoter, Brian Ferrell. “We are ecstatic to bring back the Mark Balzano Memorial to the season schedule and to have it be the finale show for the inaugural speedweek” concluded Ferrell. For more information on the West Virginia Motor Speedway visit them online at www.wvspeedway.com.

Race fans are strongly encouraged to begin planning their “Racecations” today to join in all the fun of the inaugural Icon Memorial Tour, June 13th through the 16th . There will be a mandatory Super Late Model event entry fee during each race night of $40 dollars. However, racers can save on their entry and four day pit passes by pre-entering for the Icon Memorial Tour by June 8th. By purchasing a four night driver pass for just $240 dollars they will also receive one pit pass good for all four nights of racing action. (A savings of $60 dollars, making one event almost totally entry/pass FREE)

The ‘Icon Memorial Tour Late Model Speedweek’ has been in the works for over three years, to finally unveil it and get started promoting it is a dream come true” stated EDGE director, Cody Watson. “We hope these events allow fans to get together to reminiscence on past racing stories of their own and share in the past racing heritage during four straight nights of memorial races. Any race fan who grew up watching these racers or any who made racing what it is today we hope you will attend and join us in supporting the men behind shaping our local racing scene and as we shed some light on their great achievements.” concluded Watson.

Renegade of Dirt Modified Tour Set For Exciting Four Night “Duel on Dirt” Speedweek!

(Middlebourne, WV) Ladies and Gents’ brace yourself for four straight nights of intense Renegade of Dirt Modified Tour action like you’ve never seen it before! The tours finest are at it again and when the guys and gals of the East’s elite series return to action the wicked warriors of open wheel will reconvene on four different dirt ovals in three different states during the extended June 13th-16th weekend. The grueling no holds barred four night task will challenge the regions best ‘mavericks of the mud’ to an all out duel on the dirt for a twelve hundred dollar top prize each evening and the ultimate title as the 2013 Speedweek Champion, the prestigious and hard fought honor up for grabs. On top of the great excitement of four straight nights will also be a new challenge for racers outside the current top ten in Renegade of Dirt point standings who try and out duel the East’s elite hotshoes. An extra $500 ‘bounty’ is on the line to participate and gun down the likes of Morehouse, Aukland, Wisecarver, Hartman, Kinkade, Strickler, D1ckson, Cook, D1ckson, and Watson each night. Sound easy eh? Well these gunslingers visit victory lane on a near weekly basis from New York clear down to North Carolina and travel the roads regularly in search for the highest rewards. The wickedest throttle stompers this side of the Mississippi make this task as tough as they come! For the Renegades they will be laying it all on the line to ensure they keep that from happening, if they do the top five in points after the weekend will each score an extra $100 additional funds to go with their four night earnings.

When the weekend gets underway for the resuming 2013 “Breaking Ground” tour its journey will continue where racers will return the the ¼ mile Bullring for the second time on the season where fifty eight participants last signed in for a shot at the tours history breaking “Let It Ride 55” just weeks ago that saw Nick Hoffman best the tours regulars for a $7555 payday. Memorial Day weekends big show has set the stage for a ‘curtain call’ from the action packed Renegade of Dirt Modified tour on Thursday June 13th. The Tyler County Speedway will also continue to play host to history with the 25th running of the Earl Hill Memorial a $4,000 to win Super Late Model show as the first stop of the Icon Memorial Tour Late Model Speedweek.

The tour will then travel to the Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, OH for the first time in 2013 after its original scheduled trip was rained out in early April. Last years 2012 Renegade of Dirt Champion Bobby Kitchen dominated the Renegades past trip to the facility in sealing the tours inaugural championship for the 2Brother Motorsports team last fall. When the Renegades roll into town you can bet the action will heat up for modified supremacy at the ‘racey’ 3/8 mile dirt oval, with the some of the areas/countries best expected to be in attendance on Friday June 14th. Fans will also be treated to a $4,000 to win Super Late Model show during the weekend as the annual “Freedom Fighters 40” awaits eager 800+ horsepower full fender participants.

On June 15th, racers will then be greeted to another first, the Renegades of Dirt Modified Tour will journey to the Pittsburgh PA Motor Speedway and participate on the monster ½ mile Imperial, PA based facility for crucial tour points on night #3 of the Duel on Dirt Speedweek and Icon Memorial Tour. The speedway is rich in tradition as one of the Ohio Valley’s all-time greats and has witnessed fifty seven different modified race winners since 1992, including a season high of thirteen by veteran racer Larry Kugel.

Lastly, the tour will return to the West Virginia Motor Speedway for second time in 2013 on Sunday June 16th for an epic speedweek finale battle. The spectacular conclusion of four straight nights will culminate into a last battle at the 4/10′s mile ‘Speedplant’ that is sure to produce a full night of adrenaline pumping speed when the Renegade tour combines with the Icon Tour Super Late Model division as they too settle their weekend champion at the Mineral Wells, WV based dirt oval. Regularly reaching speeds of 100mph race fans adorning the fan friendly terraced hillside will be treated to a sequel of the great action like they witnessed upon the tours first ever visit back in April.

“We have some of the finest and most professional race teams in the country right here in the Ohio Valley” stated Cody Watson. “This will give them an opportunity to run a four night “DUEL” to slug it out for ultimate bragging rights and allow us to showcase their talent to four facilities and three different states over the weekend. Lots of our area racers eye parts of the cou
ntry that are running four and five nights a week during the summer and longed for that opportunity, therefore we wanted to give that unique feel and experience to our Eastern racers and are excited to make that happen in 2013” concluded Watson.

Renegade of Dirt “Rookie of the Year” Contender, Amanda Stiffler Is Taking A Stand!
Avid member of the RAD program, Stiffler seeks to provide awareness to racing’s youth!

(Middlebourne, WV) As race fans from all over prepare to make their way to Tyler County Speedway’s action packed Memorial Day weekend, Renegade Tour officials are pleased to announce yet another exciting opportunity for race fans of all ages to take part in during the week-end ‘s esteemed line up of entertainment.

Fifteen year old, Renegade of Dirt “Rookie of the Year” contender, and second generation racer Amanda Stiffler of Farmdale, Ohio is not only passionate about her on track activity, she’s also very fervid about her off track responsibilities as part of the ‘youth’ of Auto Racing. Amanda excels in her actions of doing both very well, and is a national spokesperson for the Race Against Drugs http://www.ncprs.org/radHome.htm when not running side by side with the “guys” on dirt ovals all across the OH-WV-PA Tri-State area.

Racers Against Drugs (RAD) is the largest racing volunteer network dedicating their time as role model’s to young fans to follow their lead and live drug free, healthy lives by Fueling a Drug Free Future! The goals of the RAD organization and their spokespersons are to reach and educate our nation’s youth by advocating through motorsports professionals a drug free healthy lifestyle. Their primary focus has been to establish and maintain a large volunteer network that distributes materials designed to raise awareness and encourage discussion about drug abuse and change the attitudes and perceptions of our nation’s youth.

Amanda’s involvement with RAD started at age 14 , and being a teen in high school she knows all too well about the peer pressures, and negative influences America’s youth face daily in school and life.

I was excited to be a spokesperson for RAD so that I could show other teens, like myself, that we can together rise above the bad influences and peer pressures and that there are far better opportunities and things than drugs and alcohol. I love being a role model and helping other kids like me reach for better things and say ‘no’ to drugs.” stated, Stiffler.

Amanda is more than excited to use her racing career to be a positive influence to her peers, ” I have been blessed with the opportunity to live a dream and while I have thankfully never taken drugs, I can assure you NO drug can match the high of racing wide open into turn one. I just want kids to know that no matter what they want to do in life, they can do it if the make the right decisions and stand up for what is right.” concluded, Stiffler.

As part of the stellar weekend of events and activities offered to fans at this years Renegade of Dirt Modified Tour “Let It Ride 55”, on Saturday May 25, 2013 from 2:00pm-4:00pm Amanda will be bringing along her 500+ horsepower #14 Open Wheel Modified to vender’s alley behind the main grandstands and will be there to visit with young fans, sign autographs, give away many fun things for children and teens as well as information on the dangers of drugs.

She will encourage young fans to pledge with her to be drug free by signing her RAD pledge book. Each young fan eighteen and under that signs her pledge book will receive a ticket and be entered to win either a 1/24 scale or 1/64 scale die cast of Amanda’s RAD Modified sponsored by American Diecast Company out of Saxonburg, PA http://www.american-diecast.com/ . There will be a total of four diecast cars given away to ticket holders at intermission of the event on May 25th.

This is a wonderful thing, in today’s world where drugs are prevalent among the schools and in the teenage environment it’s great to see kids who are using their passions towards also providing an opportunity to pass out details on living a drug free lifestyle” stated Tour director, Cody Watson. “We are glad to have Amanda on the tour and to see her reaching out and spending time making kids aware through the RAD program, volunteering her time on a race day and not just being “to busy” to make a difference” concluded Watson.

Make plans to get to the Bullring early on Saturday to meet Amanda and be part of and support a drug free future and for much more information regarding the huge Memorial Weekend at the new Tyler County Speedway follow them online at www.tylercountyspeedwayonline.com, phone 304-771-6874 or 304-771-5051 or 304-758-2660 on Raceday, email any questions to info@tylercountyspeedwayonline.comor follow us via social media on Facebook and Twitter.
