$5 Frenzy Next Saturday Night at the Bullring

(Middlebourne, WV)  With mother nature finally cooperating race fans were treated to a jam packed night of racing action at the ‘Bullring’.  A full pit area would enjoy Retro Race night that featured helmet dashes and heat race pay in all classes along with the running of traditional Tyler County Speedway Eaton/Childers King of the Ring for Super Late Models and the STARS Modlites visiting for the Pat Herrick Memorial.

With a new format for the Eaton/Childers King of the Ring that would see twin 25 lap J&R Excavating Super Late Model presented by Midcap Land and Timber features with the second feature inverting all lead lap cars leaving many to wonder what would happen.  It was Clarksburg, WV’s Paul Wilmoth starring as the veteran racer would hold off a hard charging Mike Benedum and Scott Irvin to claim the first feature.  But it was the second feature that Wilmoth would put the fans on their feet.  With an 11th starting position all eyes were on Wilmoth but early in the race a four car battle at the front seen early leader Chuck Harper battle with Shane McCloughlin, Butch McGill and Corey Conley.  Meanwhile Dusty Hamrick aboard the familiar X machine started picking off cars on the bottom and would charge from his 7th starting spot to assume the lead and was poised for his biggest career win at the ‘Bullring.’  All the while Wilmoth started his charge with his patented Tyler County Speedway high line.  Wilmoth would eventually reel in Hamrick as the lead duo would race side by side until lap 23 when Wilmoth would finally blast his way around the top of the table top smooth surface to grab the lead and go on to claim both segments of the 13th Annual Eaton/Childers King of the Ring.  Rounding out the top five were Wilmoth, Hamrick, Corey Conley, Scott Irvin and Mike Benedum.  The win for Wilmoth would be his 3rd victory in the Eaton/Childers King of the Ring.

The Pat Herrick Memorial would see 30 of the best Chris Metz State Farm Insurance Modlite racers converge at the ‘bullring’ and when the dust settled it was top runner Alan Knepper of Somerset, PA picking up the win aboard the EVO Race Car.  Grandson of the great Pat Herrick, Brandon Fluharty would thrill the locals with a fine 2nd place run followed by Tracy Fritter, Jeff Teeters and Braeden Dillinger.  It was point leader Josh Baldwin picking up the win in the ‘King of the Kounty’.

It was the ‘G’ Man Gerald Deitch of Clarington, OH picking up the win in the Two Brothers Motorsports Modified main event.  Deitch would put on a dominating performance aboard the Pierce Chassis 43d machine and ending a long dry spell at the ‘bullring’.  Rounding out the top five were DJ Cline, Tommy Powell, Kevin Dotson and Michael Stevens.

2013 Point Leader Kyle Thomas from Pennsboro, WV would garner another victory in the Peoples Bank FASTRAK Late Model division.  Thomas would shoot to the lead and cruise to victory ahead of Joel Prosser, Brandon McGrady, Kris Southern, and Michael Griffin.

A full field of Hotmods would hit the high banks and it was once again it was Cheshire, Ohio’s Mike Conkle claiming the win over Chad Smith, Glenn Underwood, Lou Ennis and Travis Thomas.  In the fan favorite ‘Crack the Whip’ race it was 10th starting Lou Ennis charging to take the victory in impressive fashion.

Kicking off the evening it was once again the ‘little ice man’ Jacob Ice picking up another victory.  Trailing Ice across the stripe were Georgie Tennant, Phillip Bubeck, Kylie Cross and Kaitlyn Frazier.

Coming up this week at the Tyler County Speedway will be $5 Frenzy as race fans will be treated to the bargain of the season.  Enjoy a night at the ‘bullring’ for just $5, so bring a friend, bring a neighbor or bring a friends neighbor.  A full five division card will await in the J&R Excavating Super Late Models, Peoples Bank FASTRAK Late Models, Two Brothers Motorsports Modifieds, Hotmods, Chris Metz State Farm Insurance Mod Lites, and Wells Inn MWRA Mini Wedges.  The Hotmod Bully Dog 500 featuring Driver Intros, Pit Stop, Tire Change, NASCAR style plus FASTRAK King of the Kounty Night, Modlite Appreciation Night (free pit pass) and Kid Rides with your favorite driver at intermission all for Just $5!

More Info:  Raceday 304-758-2660, 304-771-6874  or  304-771-5051Recently, Anderson was hosting an event at his “Muddy Motorsports Park” in the Carolinas and he got ready to blast the mud pit and obstacle course. Then he hit the gas.As you will see, the truck immediately launches into a power wheelie and in typical Dennis Anderson fashion, he drives the thing like his foot is tig welded to the floor. For whatever reason he keeps all the way into it and the truck literally drives itself over backwards. The engine is in the rear of the truck so once it gets to a certain point, physics take over and there’s no way it can come down on the tires again. The in car footage is totally great and it is played at full speed and instant replay. The creepy thing is watching the mud and water rush into the truck. Anderson is OK so he obviously escaped before having any issues with being submerged.

Pegher Grabs FASTRAK Victory, Isner Claims Tammy Clegg Memorial

Isner wins Clegg Memorial

A busy night at the ‘bullring’ seen the stars and cars of the FASTRAK Northeast Tour highlight the evenings action at the Tyler County Speedway along with the annual Tammy Clegg Memorial for Hotmods and the first ever appearance of the ¾ late models.  After some early season growing pains with the new clay surface that was put down, a traditional, wide, multi-groove, table top smooth ‘bullring’ surface awaited racers and fans which made for a fantastic night of edge of your seat entertainment at the Tyler County Speedway.

The Hometown Racing Association welcomed the FASTRAK Late Model Northeast Tour back to the Tyler County Speedway for round two of the 2013 season.   Twenty six of the best crate late model racers in the nation lined up and when the checkered flag flew it was perennial winner Mike Pegher of Wexford, PA piloting the Geisler/ #1Cochran Automotive sponsored machine picking up the impressive win over a stout field of Peoples Bank FASTRAK late models.  A caution filled event would see Pegher hold off the pesky duo of Kyle Thomas and Max Blair, rounding out the top five were Dan Angelichio and Joe Martin.

The Annual Tammy Clegg Tribute for the Hotmod division would see Hannibal, Ohio’s Kenny “Radar” Isner aboard Mike Martin’s/Mike’s Auto Body/Norris Tire/Buddy Light Accounting/B&S Graphics #7 Lightning chassis sweep the night by picking up the prestigious Clegg Memorial but also taking the fan favorite “King of the Kounty” title.

Early race leader Chad Smith set the initial pace but mechanical issues sidelined the snake bitten driver for the event and once Isner took command he would go on to grab the popular win ahead of Brad Dickson, CJ Dotson, Lou Ennis and Codi Eaton.  Fans were also treated to the first “King of the Kounty” event of the season where the top 8 qualifiers in the Hotmod division would go bracket style racing until just one was left and in the championship round it was Isner knocking off Chad Smith to pick up the first “King of the Kounty” title.

In the Chris Metz State Farm Insurance ModLite main event it was Beallsville, Ohio’s Josh Baldwin aboard the 34n picking up his 3rd win of the season.  Baldwin would hold off a hard charging Ron Parrish as the veteran racer made it interesting on the final circuit but had to settle for a season best 2nd place finish at the line.  Rounding out the top five were Braiden Dillinger, Steve Weekley and Ryan Baker.

In the first appearance of the ¾ late models at the Tyler County Speedway it was Kelvin Kohan beating out Jeff Fornash and Colten Flinner across the stripe.

Next Saturday, June 22nd the ‘bullring’ will sit idle in honor of the town of Middlebourne’s 200th Birthday Celebration and the events being held at the Fairgrounds including the Landau Eugene Murphy concert and Fireworks.

Rain Washes Out First Night of Icon Tour & Renegade Speedweek, Wayne Co. Up Next!
American Racer/Lias Tire Added As Sponsor For Icon Speedweek!

(Middlebourne, WV) The highly anticipated Inaugural Icon Memorial Tour Late Model Speedway presented by Weekley Electric and the 2013 “Duel on Dirt” Renegade Modified Speedweek will have to wait another day before it gets underway due to another W for Mother Nature on the 2013 “Back For More Tour” season. The tour’s which were set to kick off on Thursday night at the Tyler County Speedway with the 25th running of the Earl Hill Memorial and the $1200 to win E-Mod special have been postponed due to rain and treacherous weather conditions for the entire Ohio Valley area for much of Thursday morning and throughout the day.

With high winds, hail, and rainfall already making its way into the area and much more predicted throughout the night Hometown Racing Association promoter John Watson was forced to call off the festivities slated for June 13th at the Bullring which included the $4,000 to win Earl Hill Memorial, a rain date for this event is still to be determined. The Renegade of Dirt Modified Tour will also look to make up the lost event during the remainder of the 2013 season which will be announced as soon as possible for racers to call an audible in order to replan their return to the Middlebourne, WV ¼ mile dirt oval. As much as three inches of rain and 60-70 mph winds are in the forecast for the already soft and saturated all new racing surface adorning the facility. The new surface features 250 loads of new clay that has yet to successfully form into prime condition which is making every large rainfall that much more difficult on track staff to prep for each race night and ultimately makes tomorrow night to risk on racers equipment for the rest of the weekend.

“The weather wont cut us any slack” stated John Watson. “We’re working hard on the surface and getting it right. Jeopardizing our progress we’ve made over the last few days by running it and the forecast calling for over two inches of rain we think it’s for the better to go ahead and postpone the Earl Hill race so that we can reschedule it and showcase the 25th annual event on a speedway that will be conducive to typical three and four wide smooth ‘Bullring’ action” added Watson. “We’re disappointed but we wanted to also make our decision early for all traveling race teams to have plenty of notice, we want to wish all the race teams the best of luck as they travel the remainder of their speedweek Friday through Sunday and want to remind everyone we will be in action this Saturday night with the Fastrak Northeast Touring Series, EDGE Hotmods, Modlites, and a speedway first 3/4 Late Models” concluded Watson.

The tours finest are now set for a three day adventure that will still see the East Elite tour and the Icon Tour storm towards three different states during the extended June 13th-16th weekend. Racers are reminded the Renegade of Dirt Modified Top Ten Bounty is still on. Any racer outside the current top ten in Renegade of Dirt point standings who tries and can out duel the East’s elite hotshoes will win an extra $500 ‘bounty’ that is up for grabs to participate and gun down the likes of Morehouse, Aukland, Wisecarver, Hartman, Kinkade, Strickler, D1ckson, Cook, D1ckson, and Watson each night. The wickedest throttle stompers this side of the Mississippi make this task as tough as they come. For the Renegades they will be gunning to keep that from happening, if they do the top five in points after the weekend will each score an extra $100 additional funds to go with their four night earnings.

The Icon Memorial Tour is still set on go for three straight days that will feature its opener now in the Buckeye State of Ohio at the Wayne County Speedway in beautiful Orrville for the $4000 to win, “Freedom Fighters 40”. Some of the Ohio Valley’s premier Super Late Model racers are expected to be in attendance to battle the always tough field of regulars at the Wayne County Speedway including; Rick Aukland, Doug Drown, Donnie and Devin Moran, Keith Barbara, Mike Benedum, Mason Zeigler, Keith Berner, and many more.

The action will then resume on Saturday when the Renegades of Dirt Modified Tour will journey to the Pittsburgh PA Motor Speedway and participate on the monster ½ mile Imperial, PA based facility for crucial tour points and for the first time ever! It also makes that return after a long absence for the open wheel division at the speedway where the Renegade Tour will battle for $1200 to win and $150 to start in front of highly anticipated large crowd. The Herb Scott Memorial and second night for the Icon Tour will also await the full fender Late Model division that will be gunning for the $4000 top prize on night #2 of the now abbreviated Icon Memorial Tour Late Model Speedweek presented by Weekley Electic.

Lastly, the tour will return to the West Virginia Motor Speedway for second time in 2013 for an epic speedweek finale battle. The 4/10′s mile ‘Speedplant’ is sure to produce a full night of adrenaline pumping speed when the Renegade tour combines with the Icon Tour Super Late Model division as they too settle their weekend champion at the Mineral Wells, WV based dirt oval during the “Mark Balzano Memorial” $4,000 to win invitational.
